REDEDICATION CEREMONY
written by Gail Penny, September 2001

(Start out with lights out)

The dark surrounds us, but doesn't offer us much of anything.

(Light master candle)

What a difference it makes when a candle is lit.
Suddenly, we can see what is around us.
We can see the faces of our friends and others that we love.
The light pushes away the darkness and comforts us.
Light can bring us peace and hope.

This candle is a symbol of girl scouting.
Girl Scouting brings comfort, peace and hope to us and to our sister girl scouts.

Listen to the words of the Girl Scout Law:

I will do my best to be

  • honest and fair,
  • friendly and helpful,
  • considerate and caring,
  • courageous and strong, and
  • responsible for what I say and do, and to
  • respect myself and others,
  • respect authority,
  • use resources wisely,
  • make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

(Pass out candles, light the others)

Inside of each one of us, there is a light.
This light shines brighter with each act of love
and can be used to spark the fire within others as we reach out to them.

The light inside of each one of us brightens the lives of those around us.
Remember that!
Just by being who you are, you brighten the life of many people.
YOU are important
YOU matter
The world would be darker without your light.

Tonight we rededicate ourselves as girl scouts and strive to live by the law.

Please place your candle in your left hand and give the girl scout sign with your right.
Think about the words as we all recite the girl scout promise:

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times
and to live by the Girl Scout Law.

You may blow out your candles.
