| Message from the Coordinator
The association plans association-wide activities to help Girl Scouts understand there is more to Girl Scouts than just their troops, to provide experience more than an individual troop would plan, and to promote community among our area Girl Scouts. The association also exists to support Girl Scout troop leaders, to help them be successful and to provide a link to our council. The purpose of LEADER MEETINGS is to welcome new members, build a feeling of unity, promote council and association objectives and goals, and to share Girl Scout troop plans, successes and needs. Girl Scout leader meetings are an opportunity to distribute council or association informational materials, give recognition and thanks. Leader meetings are the third Wednesday of every month, except December and April, when the third Wednesday occurs during school holidays. The purpose of the ADULT COORDINATING TEAM (ACT) is to help the Association Coordinator plan leader meetings and to handle association business. There are currently 46 positions on the ACT. Please volunteer!! The ACT meets on the first Wednesday of every month. Two ASSOCIATION MEETINGS are scheduled each year. All registered Girl Scouts 14 years old and older, including adult Girl Scouts, may attend. Our first Association Meeting is scheduled for January 17th, 2001. Topics will include association finances, council goals and current issues. The second association meeting will be in April, and will include the awarding of adult recognitions and reports from the council delegates in preparation for the annual council meeting Do you have questions about the Association? Contact our Coordinator, Lisa Chrisman at ttoes@home.com or 937-9007. |

The Girl Scout Outstanding Leader award may only be awarded when girls and families in the Girl Scout troop nominate their leader. The nomination process is easy, and we will help you with it. Call Jann Geyer at 681-1857 and ask for Outstanding Leader nomination forms. Make sure your daughter's outstanding leader is recognized this year. |
BE A FRIEND OF GIRL SCOUTINGFriends of Girl Scouting (FOGS) is our Council's annual fund-raising drive. Contributions to FOGS are used to train leaders, to offer council programs, to provide scholarships. Over 16,000 volunteers give over one million hours every year to support Girl Scouting. The Council Board is asking that families help to supplement those volunteer hours with donations to FOGS. Last year, the average donation was $22.09. Some donations were $1.00, and some were $150.00 or more. The Council Board suggests that families consider a $40.00 gift. Please help to support Girl Scouts in our community with a donation to FOGS. Every donation of $15.00 or more will be recognized with a special commemorative pin. Make checks payable to Girl Scouts of San Francisco Bay Area. Donations may be given to your troop's leader for deposit to FOGS. |
Troop NewsA HIKE ON MT. DIABLO — On April 19th, 2000, Junior Girl Scout Troop 369 went for a hike on Mount Diablo. Each girl came prepared with sturdy shoes, long pants, hat, and an ingredient to share for trail mix. The day was pleasantly warm, the hillsides green and full of wildflowers. We were able to identify caterpillars, birds, and plants, including poison oak (very useful skill to have!). When we reached a particularly pretty section of the trail along Back Creek, we stopped to enjoy our trail mix, make charcoal drawings of our beautiful surroundings, and compose some poetry!CAMPING — Girl Scout Troops 2156 and 3878 from Hidden Valley Elementary School in Martinez recently camped at Twin Canyons in Lafayette. This is a perfect spot for beginner campers as the site includes a sleep cabin complete with refrigerator, stove and heater, outside lights for a covered cook/eating area including a huge BBQ, lighted bathrooms, campfire area, several hiking trails and a field for many games and activities. It is only 20 minutes from home and is a Girl Scout camp! GIRL SCOUT SIGN — On October 7, 2000, Caitlin Busichio and Girl Scout Troop 471 with members of the Martinez community unveiled a new Girl Scout sign at the Highway 4 Alhambra Avenue exit. Last spring, as a project for her Junior Leadership Pin, Caitlin collected aluminum and plastic to pay for the sign. She contacted the city of Martinez who installed it during the summer. Now everyone driving on Alhambra Avenue can see the sign proudly displayed. |
