Our Thoughts Are With You,
NY Firefighters

Junior Girl Scout Troop #2157
Meredith Davis, Troop Leader

Our Girl Scout Junior Troop #2157 wanted to make a flag for the firefighters in New York. We didn't want it to be like other flags, so we signed our names on the 50 stars, and we quilted some of the stripes. Then we wrote some encouraging words on the other stripes. These were to tell the firefighters that we are very grateful and we will never forget about the great job they did fighting fires in the Twin towers and saving lots of lives. We will never forget them.

Help Celebrate Any Holiday!

Junior Girl Scout Troop 2410 (Co-Op Troop)
Ann Ennis / Cynthia Powers, Co-Leaders

Troop 2410 was approached in February 2001 to come to the aid of St. Francis program to house the homeless for one week. We were asked to provide table decorations for February 22, with the theme of Washington's birthday in mind. The Girl Scouts made red, white and blue tissue paper flowers and attached them to the outside of some recycled plastic containers, they then filled the containers with assorted candies to share with the 60 participants in this years program. The program director sent the troop a thank you notes saying, "Many of the guests commented on the table decorations and how much it meant to them. Thank you for making their week at St. Francis of Assisi so special!"

Junior Jamboree…
Fun in All Types of Weather!

Junior Girl Scout Troop 369
Yvonne Lee - Leader

Junior Troop 369 had a wonderful time at the 2001 Junior Jamboree! We learned how to camp in the rain, cope with the wind, and thoroughly loved the rainbows. During our stay, we worked on our outdoor Cooking Badge. The girls learned how to handle a propane stove and make omelettes-in-a-bag, how to create a charcoal fire and extinguish it (after s'mores), and how to bake a cake in a box oven. The girls did all the dishwashing, plus a lot of the tent setup (in pouring rain!), and packing up. The event was expertly run by Senior and Cadette Girl Scouts, and was a wonderful experience for our troop.

Diablo Day Camp Has Expanded!

Diablo Day Camp has been so popular last summer that the DDC committee has opened up a new session! This session will be at a new site in Ramon (a rented property). Diablo Day Camp at Little Hills Ranch in San Ramon will be only offered one week, and is unique to the traditional DDC experience. There will be more sports and no food preparation at this site. Look for your Diablo Day Camp Registration form to come in the mail by February 20th and check out the details! You can choose this session OR one of the other traditional sessions offered at Twin Canyons in Lafayette!

Support our Local Leaders at DDC!

Did you know that 3 different DDC sessions will be run this summer by Pleasant Hill Association members! Special thanks for all their hard work to these Directors: Lisa Gorrell (camp name: Milky Way), Darlene Stone (Athena), and Peggy Wallace (Alex), and MC Clark (Red Hawk). Look for their sessions and sign up to be part of their fun weeks at camp!

Don't let the cost of camp deter your daughter from a fun camping experience this summer - financial aid is available! Go to the new Diablo Day Camp website: Diablodaycamp.com to download the financial aid form or call the Girl Scouts of the SF Bay Area office (800-447-4475) to request form #952. DUE DATE FOR MAILING YOUR REGISTRATION IS MARCH 1ST - DON'T BE LATE!

Spread Cheer Year Around!

Junior Girl Scout Troop 1894
Carolyn Moeller- Leader

Junior Troop 1894 spread some cheer by singing Halloween carols (Halloween words sung to familiar Christmas tunes) at the Veteran's Hospital last year. To be festive, they wore their Halloween costumes and passed out miniature pumpkins to the patients. This year they are going to spread love and friendship by singing Valentine carols (you guessed it...Valentine words sung to familiar Christmas tunes) at a local convalescent home. The staff commented that it was nice for the patients to hear carolers at a time other than Christmas when they usually get visitors, and it was lots of fun for the girls too!

Adopt A Family for Christmas

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 2463
Carolyn Griffith - Leader
For a community service project, Brownie Troop 2463, at Christmas time adopted a family through the East Bay Perinatal Council. The family consisted of a single mom with four children, two boys and two girls. The Brownie Girl Scouts broke into three groups. Each group took a part of the wish list and shopped for the items on their part of the list. They then returned to the leader's house for a wrapping party. There were enough presents that each girl got to wrap one. We're happy to say we were able to fill the wish list with our Fall Sale profits. Dining room chairs, watches, Game Boys, shoes and dolls were some of the items purchased. All in all we spent over $500. The girls all enjoyed this community service project and seemed to really get a better understanding of the Christmas spirit of giving from the heart. It was money well spent!

Junior Girl Scout Troop #3878
Gina Paff - Leader
For Juliette Low's birthday we had a Halloween party. We bobbed for apples and painted pumpkins. All our pumpkin faces turned out unique! Everyone brought Halloween treats and we all enjoyed eating them. Since Juliette Low liked to put on plays, we also had a mini talent show, and our troop leader videotaped us singing and dancing to a song we selected. Bobbing for apples was hard, and it was funny watching people trying to bite into the apple! For the "Eco Action" badge we planted trees and plants at the house of a girl in our troop. One group planted while the other group wrote what they would do to help the Earth, then we switched. At the end of the meeting we all planted a huge tree together!
